Mr. Boyd W. Allen, also known as Woody, a longtime resident of Belgium, WI, passed away November 5, 2017. He suffered for many years with Alzheimer's, and after a long battle passed away quietly with his wife by his side. Woody was born on May 17, 1943 in Boston, MA. He was the son of Boyd E. Allen and Marguerite (nee King) Allen. He spent his early years in Pennsylvania. The family moved to West Bend in 1953 and Boyd graduated from West Bend High School. Following graduation, Woody moved to Claremont, FL to live with his grandparents until he joined the US Coast Guard in 1964. He was honorably discharged in 1968, but remained in the US Coast Guard Reserve until 1970. Woody moved back to Wisconsin and attended Kenosha Tech for a year where he studied Horticulture. He also attended Bryant Stratton College in Milwaukee, where he earned an Associate's Degree in Business in 1979. Boyd worked at the family business, Allen Edmonds Shoe Corporation in Belgium, WI for a total of 36 years, starting while he was in high school. After he returned from service, his responsibilities included starting the first customer service department, and later running the leather department. He frequently traveled to Europe and France to grade leather before it was shipped to the factory. Boyd was united in marriage with Colleen (nee Bergman) Schueller on August 6, 1976 at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church in Port Washington. The couple continued to live in Belgium. Woody was an active member of the American Legion Melvin Wester Belgium Post 412. He served as a member of the Belgium Village Board for six years and was very active on the Tree Board. Woody applied his knowledge from his studies of horticulture by taking care of Bares Park, where he donated all of the flowers and cared for the park for 20 years. Woody and Colleen's yard was featured in the Ozaukee Press and is still appreciated by family and friends. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife Colleen, and children Linda Erovick of Cedarburg, WI and Kurt (Chris) Schueller of Zackow, WI. He is further survived by grandsons Colin & Cory Erovick, brother Clyde E. (Shawna) Allen of Columbiaville, MI, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. According to his wishes, Woody will be cremated and there will be no memorial services. The family is grateful for the condolences, however in lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
