BETTY LOU WENGEL
Mrs. Betty Lou Wengel, formerly of Foster Street in Port Washington, passed away late Saturday evening, February 20, 2016, at Harbor Club where she has resided since 2013. She was 89 years old.
Betty Lou was born in Port Washington on January 17, 1927, daughter of Henry and Theresa Rodesch Freitag. She attended local schools, and was united in marriage with Edward Wengel on April 3, 1948 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington. The couple settled in town and started their family, eventually moving to their home on Foster Street. Ed preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Wengel was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington, and a long-time member and former president of the American Legion Post 82 Auxiliary. She was also an avid bowler and a frequent volunteer at the Food Pantry in Port Washington.
She is survived by six children: Suzanne (Allen) Wetor of West Bend, Larry (Janet) Wengel of Menomonie, Linda (Tim) Prom of Port Washington, Kathleen (Patrick) Halverson of Kohler, Annette Wengel of Waterford, MI and Craig (Kara) Wengel of Fredonia. She is further survived by numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Rita Wengel of Saukville, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Ed, their daughter Karen and her sister Janet (the late George) Lampert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1PM on Saturday, March 5th at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin Ave., Port Washington. Father Patrick Wendt will preside. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in St. Mary's Cemetery later that day. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Saturday from 11:30AM until time of services at 1PM. There will be a walk-through for the Legion Auxiliary at 12:30 PM.
Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Post 82 Auxiliary.
