Obituary

Betty Seefeld, age 76, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, after a devastating diagnosis of CNS lymphoma, leaving little time to fight. Betty's life was defined by her giving nature, strong friendships, close family ties and advocacy for social justice.

Born on December 26, 1948, Betty grew up on a dairy farm with her family in Abbotsford, Wisconsin. She pursued higher education with determination and heart, earning a degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Later as a working mom, she furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point, where she obtained a master's degree in special education.

She is survived by her daughters, Amanda Langjahr (Lon McEwen) of Tucson, Arizona and Erin Scibelli (Neal Scibelli) of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; her beloved grandchildren, Izzy Sabatke, Theo Scibelli, and Abe Scibelli; and her brother, Jim Bragg of Abbotsford. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and former colleagues who were touched by her compassion, wisdom, and unwavering dedication.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Nell Bragg; her brother, Bob Bragg; her sister-in-law, Elaine Bragg; and her husband, Neal Langjahr.

Betty dedicated her professional life to serving children with special needs. As a physical therapist working in locations including the Wausau School District, the Baraboo area and in Tucson, Arizona, she brought not only clinical expertise but also deep empathy to every child and family she supported. She was champion for every child and their family deserving dignity, opportunity, and care.

Betty's hands were rarely still. She was an avid quilter, creating personalized quilts for family and friends, and donating countless quilts to support victims of sexual violence—each stitch a gesture of comfort and care. Her passion for gardening was equally profound. A champion of native Wisconsin plants and pollinator habitats, Betty cultivated extensive gardens wherever she lived. Her memories will last in the flowers she planted, the knowledge she shared, and the beauty she left behind. She spent many hours at the Milwaukee Domes with her grandsons Theo and Abe teaching them to appreciate the wonder of nature.

One of Betty's greatest strengths lay in the relationships she built and the way in which she supported those around her. She spent many years as a 4-H leader, volunteer and mentor. Whether it was one of her many cherished friendships that spanned many years, family members, neighbors or coworkers, Betty was always available to lend a hand or cook a meal.

Her most treasured role, however, was that of Grandma to Izzy, Theo, and Abe. She embraced each grandchild's personality, celebrating their individual strengths, abilities, and interests with pride and unconditional love. Betty spent countless hours with her grandchildren—reading stories, baking treats, tossing rocks into the waves at South Beach, and snuggling close during quiet moments. Her presence was a gift of comfort and encouragement, her love apparent in every shared hug.

Betty's legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched—with kindness that never wavered and support that never ceased. She will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 22, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Unitarian Church North in Mequon, in the Fellowship Hall. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor Betty's life and the love she gave.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Betty's memory may consider a donation to the Milwaukee Domes, a place that reflects her lifelong love of plants, nature, and community.
