Betty Ann (Hoppe) Last
Although always avoiding the spotlight and accolades, Betty Last was the epitome of a compassionate servant. She always considered and addressed the needs of others before her own.
Mrs. Last, of 1861 Woodview Circle, Port Washington, died peacefully among family at Lincoln Village Senior Living during the evening hours of Wednesday, June 19, 2024. She was 96.
Betty lived her entire life in the Port Washington area. She grew up on the family farm south of town, raised her family with her husband on Holden St., and moved to Woodview Circle after her husband passed.
Betty was married to Harold R. Last on May 29, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington.
While raising her four children, she worked at Smith Brothers Fish Shanty for 40-plus years as a waitress and later as a hostess.
Mrs. Last was very active in St. Mary's Church (St. John XXIII Parish), always happy to step up wherever and whenever there was a need. As a dedicated member of the Christian Women, Betty helped prepare and serve hundreds of meals after funerals over many years. She was also a faithful poll worker for elections in Port Washington.
She is survived by her four children: JoAnn (Walter) Foth of Port Washington, Dan (Sue) Last of Washington, Michigan, Larry (Barb) Last of Moulton, Alabama, and Ron (Mary) Last of West Palm Beach, Florida. She is further survived by 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
