Mrs. Bertha M. Surges passed away peacefully at her residence in Watertown on Monday evening, March 16, 2020. She was 95 years old. Bertha was born in Cedarburg on December 7, 1924, daughter of Herbert and Helen Sheer. "Bert" attended local schools, graduating from Cedarburg High School. She was united in marriage with Matthew Surges on August 31, 1946 at Advent Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. The couple settled in Cedarburg and raised their daughters. Mrs. Surges worked as a secretary at Charter Rolling and Northwestern Elevator Company. After She and Matthew retired, they moved up north to Mountain. Matthew preceded her in death in 1995 and Bertha moved to Fredonia. She later moved to Watertown in 2018. Bert was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Cedarburg, where she was a long time Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 288 Axillary. She loved to read, and had enjoyed traveling with her husband. Survivors include Carol (the late Daniel) Grotkiewicz of Grafton and Linda (John) Spangler of Bradley, CA. She is further survived by 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sister Marilyn (the late Raymond) Zulka of Cedarburg, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Matthew, sister Helen (the late Lloyd) Isaacson, an infant brother, and brothers Herman, Wilbur, Walter and Herbert. There are no services scheduled at this time. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Zur Ruhe Cemetery in Cedarburg at a later time.
