Bernice Mason "Venne" passed away at her home on Thursday, June 27, 2019. She was 94 years old. Bernice was born on August 8, 1924 in Medford, Wisconsin to Paul and Mary (nee Stulga) Chekitis.
Bernice was a hairdresser for over 45 years and owner of the Venne Beauty Studio in the building that is now The Washington House in Cedarburg. She also operated a shop in Milwaukee prior to making her home in Cedarburg. Bernice was a very talented hairdresser, who took every bit of enthusiasm and vitality to inspire whoever she became involved with in her career. Her sense of humor was delightful and invigorating, building up the spirits of those around her. Bernice's jokes and punch lines delighted both herself and her listeners. She gave of herself warmly, asking for nothing in return. Bernice's customer service went above and beyond. She could be found picking clients up at their homes and dropping them back off after their services were complete as well as donating her time to local nursing homes. She was devoted to her family, especially her mother who she cared for while also running her busy shop. Bernice retired from the business in 1983. She was a constant viewer of the Packers, Badgers, Brewers and the Braves since the 50's and enjoyed going to the Super Bowl in Denver with her daughter in 1997. She traveled with her late husband to Australia, Tahiti, Fiji, and Hawaii and throughout the US.
Bernice is survived by her daughter Gloria Haas, granddaughter Lisa (Rick) Paul, and five great- grandchildren Brittany, Keri, Kaylee, Mark and Rickie, her "second family" Kip, Helen, Ben and Annie. She is further survived by other relatives and many friends. Bernice is preceded in death by her loving husband Dr. Lawrence Mason, grandson Jeffrey, 2 sisters, 1 brother and one sister-in-law.
A Memorial Service will be held at Eernisse Funeral Home 1167 Washington Avenue Cedarburg, 53012 on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 11:00 AM.
Her family will receive visitors from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM.
Bernice's family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Horizon Hospice for the care and compassion they provided.
