Times Printing Co. was started by Ray's father mother (H. C. Flora Scholler) as a local newspaper but Bernice Ray expanded the business to become one of the top 100 largest printing companies in North America. It was a team effort - both providing the skills and drive to keep the business growing. Employees knew they better be working when Bernice was around but they also knew they could count on her for help if an emergency occurred. A number of the long term employees remember the breakfasts she would cook for the Saturday morning crews as an incentive for working overtime! Until the last month they were at the plant on a daily basis making sure the business continued operating. Bernice Ray also operated Scholler Photography Studio located in Random Lake Bernice providing oil painting skills to give the customers colored photos before there was color photography. Bernice Ray were very active in the Experimental Aircraft Association for over 50 years. Bernice received many awards for her dedication to EAA and its mission including the Dorothy Hilbert Award for dedicated volunteers. During her volunteer tenure at EAA she served as the Registration Chairman and then assisted Ray as the Evening Program Co-Chairman. The campground at EAA is named Camp Scholler in recognition of Bernice Rays' countless hours promoting EAA and volunteering for any task that needed her special touch to ensure successful Fly-Ins. EAA provided Bernice with the opportunity to spend many hours mowing lawns painting cleaning etc. to prepare for the annual Fly-Ins. It also provided her with an enormous number of friends around the world and visiting towns throughout the country assisting at various air shows and EAA Chapter events doing whatever needed to be done. She especially enjoyed working at the Reno Air Races with their best friends Paul Audrey Poberezny. Bernice was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the St. Mary's Christian Women's Organization. Bernice was gifted with a number of craft talents. She loved sewing crocheting knitting needlepoint and painting ceramic knick-knacks (which decorated her home and the homes of her friends and family). She enjoyed spending time with her family mowing lawn spending time outdoors and driving her John Deere Gator to chase the geese off her newly mowed lawn! Anyone who knew Bernice knew that she loved to shop - anywhere anytime. But her greatest love was Ray.
