Bernice C. Anzia (nee Vander Sanden) Obituary

After a brief and unexpected hospitalization, Bernice C. Anzia, widely known by her distinctive nickname of Pete, died on December 11. She was 91 years old.

Proud of her Dutch ancestry, she was a strong, hard-working and likeable woman. Pete was born on April 19, 1932, in a cabin near Tomahawk, WI, the fifth of nine children of Martin and Alida Vander Sanden.

Pete married Ronald V. Anzia on February 7, 1959, in Harrison, WI, and they resided in Thiensville-Mequon, WI for over 60 years. She is survived by her husband and their four children: Ann (Mark) Digerness of Richfield, WI; Mary Jo of Cedarburg, WI; Jim (Jennifer) of Whitefish Bay, WI, and Laura (Paul) Bruce of Marshfield, WI.

Pete is also survived by her sister, Mary Ann Behling, and three brothers, Martin Vander Sanden, Thomas Vander Sanden, and Carl (Leona) Vander Sanden.

Pete and Ron have seven grandchildren: Amanda (Mike) Eibs, Megan (Brent) Hahn, Kelly (Tim) Ferguson, Lucille (special friend Mike) Anzia, Joey Anzia, Allison (Pat) Sullivan, and Jake (Sarah) Bruce, along with seven great-grandchildren.

Pete was preceded in death by three sisters: Margaret (John) Loka, Alice (Robert) Hoogervorst, and Lorraine (George) Weizenicker, and brother John (Delores) Vander Sanden.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 15, at Lumen Christi Catholic Church, 2750 W Mequon Road in Mequon, WI, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Reception to follow. Private family burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Lake Church, WI.
