Bernard E. "Spike" Schreiner passed away at Ascension Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Milwaukee on Monday, February 17, 2020 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 72. He drifted peacefully into his eternal rest, leaving behind his fantastic legacy of humor, snark, teaching, photography, joy of family, and so much more.
Bernard was born on April 22, 1947 to Bernard and Myrtle (Godersky) Schreiner. He was united in marriage to Judith Sudbrink on August 23, 1969.
Bernard served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1976. He spent many years as a dedicated high school teacher, where he taught students science for 45 years. He taught at both Dominican High School and Our Lady of Good Hope, and coached girls basketball for many years. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, listening to music, amateur photography, and spending time with his granddaughters.
Bernard is survived by his loving wife Judith Schreiner, son Jonathan (Micki) Schreiner, daughter Elizabeth (Jason) Philps, granddaughters: Arlee, Abbi, Ivy, Olive, Aria and Una, sisters: Linda (Thomas) Barth, Renee Schreiner, Laurie (Phil) Heer, brother Randy (Connie) Schreiner, sisters-in-law: Audrey (Kerry) Kanies and Alberta (Fred) Mess. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Eernisse Funeral Home 1167 Washington Avenue Cedarburg, 53012. Pastor Matthew Rose of Our Savior's in Hartland will officiate. Spike's family will receive visitors from 12:00 until the time of the service at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family will be used to purchase a memorial bench at a local park in Bernard's name.
