In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by 7 sisters and 3 brothers: Gertrude Hemmersbach, Larry Haas, Regina Ebert, Joseph Haas, Martha Chicanick, Hildegard Schreier, Aurelia Rogahn, Lawrence Haas, Dorothy Gohres, and Anne Fishburne; and infant grandson, Daniel Weishar.
Bernie was the youngest of 13 siblings, born on April 11, 1926 and raised on the family farm in Cashton. She graduated from LaCrosse State Teachers College. Bernie worked as an elementary school teacher in Shawano, Spokane, WA, and Milwaukee, and as a teacher's aide at Madison Elementary School in Wauwatosa.
She was a long-time volunteer for Christ Child Society, St. Joseph's Wauwatosa Christian Women, Ronald McDonald House, and Marian Center. She had a real knack for decorating and crafts; she created lovely arrangements for many Church functions and local fairs and markets. Bernie loved to play cards and was a member of Church and neighborhood bridge groups.
Her true pride and joy in life were faith and family. Bernie was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her ability to embrace life at every stage and to see the good in everyone was a gift to all who knew her. Her life exemplified her deep faith; her rosary always within reach, and her nightly prayers included her extensive list of family and friends. Her exuberance could light up a room and she was quick with a joke. She was a loyal Packers and Brewers fan and enjoyed the grandkids' athletic games. The grandchildren will forever treasure their memories of the Chicken Dance Polka with her at various family gatherings. We will cherish the wonderful memories that Bernie created.
