Obituary

Mrs. Barbara Pernitz of Cedarburg passed away at Ascension- Columbia -St. Mary's Hospital Ozaukee in Mequon on Saturday, December 30, 2023. She was 75 years old.

Barbara was born in Milwaukee on September 3, 1948, daughter of Kenneth and Shirley (nee Buntrock) Mayr. She attended local schools and graduated from Custer High School, Class of 1966, before continuing her education at UW Oshkosh where she received her degree in Nursing.

Barbara moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to work as a nurse for several years before returning to Milwaukee. She was united in marriage with Frank Pernitz at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Milwaukee on April 16, 1977. The couple settled in Cedarburg and began their family. Frank preceded her in death in 2002.

Mrs. Pernitz was employed at St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee as a Postpartum Nurse for over 40 years, retiring in 2017. A very social person, Barbara was an avid reader and enjoyed her book club, as well as the widow's group she was involved in, and a wonderful group of friends that she would travel with. Following her retirement from nursing, Barbara occupied her time helping a friend as a receptionist at a local hair salon. Her daughters were the center of her world, and Barbara always supported them through her attendance at their dance recitals, sporting events, and chaperoning school events when they were younger.

Barbara is survived by her daughters Erika Pernitz of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Heidi Pernitz of Wauwatosa. She is further survived by her brother Dale (Nancy) Mayr of Mequon, other family and many friends. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and her parents Kenneth and Shirley Mayr.
