JAMES J. KOENEN Attorney James J. Koenen of Regatta Drive in Port Washington passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on Friday June 18 2010.nbsp; He was 84 years old.nbsp; James was born in Port Washington on July 25 1925 son of Frank J. and Kathryn R. Smith Koenen.nbsp; A graduate of Port Washington High School he entered into service with the United States Army in 1943 fighting in the Battle of the Bulge with the 106th Infantry Division.nbsp; Following his military career James attended Marquette University graduating from Marquette University Law School in 1952.nbsp; He was united in marriage with Patricia Hopfensperger at St. Maryrsquo;s Catholic Church in Port Washington on September 2 1950.nbsp; The couple settled in Port and later moved to Belgium returning to Port in the 1960s. James practiced law in Ozaukee County for more than 40 years serving as Ozaukee County District Attorney in the early 1960s. He was active in many civic organizations including the Port Washington Rotary Club the Belgium Lions Club and Belgium American Legion Post 412.nbsp; Mr. Koenen was a longtime member of St. Maryrsquo;s Catholic Church in Port Washington the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Foresters. He is a past member of the Belgium Fire Department.nbsp; James was an avid golfer and also enjoyed spending time with friends and family.nbsp; He is survived by his wife Pat their three daughters: Kathryn (Andrew) Potos of Belgium Ann (Greg) Miller of Atlanta GA and Mary (Rick) DeBano of Oregon WI.nbsp; He is also survived by five grandsons: Michael Steven Patrick David and James his sister Rita (Peter) Thein sister-in-law Peg Koenen brother-in-law Jim (Dolores) Hopfensperger nieces nephews other relatives and friends.nbsp; He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Francis.nbsp; A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Tuesday June 22nd at St. Maryrsquo;s Catholic Church 430 N.
