Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Arlis Moses of Cedarburg. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, February 17, 2026, while surrounded by her loving family. She was 90 years old.

Arlis was born in Rosendale, WI on December 8, 1935, the daughter of Frank and Bernice (nee Morgan) Stapel. The family later moved to the Beaver Dam area, and Arlis graduated from Beaver Dam High School, class of 1954.

While living in Fond du Lac, she met the man who would become the love of her life; Arlis was united in marriage with Herbert Moses in 1960. The couple settled in Brown Deer and started their family of five children. In 1971 they moved to Cedarburg. After raising five children, Arlis took a job as a secretary at Cedarburg High School, a position she thoroughly enjoyed. Arlis maintained her special friendships with the ladies from CHS and their gatherings gave her great joy.

Arlis had a love for horses and following the death of her husband she once again returned to the stable. With her trusty mare Marrie, she took many horse-centered trips to locations like Kentucky and Missouri with her many friends from the stable. She always had a fondness for animals and has had many special dogs in her life.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children Michael (Cindy) Moses of Washington, Iowa, Jeffrey (Linda) Moses of Cedarburg, Steven Moses of Milwaukee, Donald Moses of Grafton, and Mary Moses of Cedarburg. She further survived by six grandchildren: Katie, Emily (Caleb) Miller, Madeline, Joshua, Hannah, and Samuel, three great-grandchildren: Moses, Ada, and Luke, her brother Douglas (Flora) Stapel of Ripon, her special cousin Jean Doubek, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Arlis is preceded in death by her husband Herbert, her parents, brother Richard Stapel, and her beloved horse Marrie. Nothing gave Arlis more joy than her family. She was truly the heart of her home and will truly be missed by all who knew her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11AM on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Lumen Christi Catholic Church in Mequon. The family invites you to join them at the church on Monday, February 23, from 10AM until Mass begins at 11AM. Arlis will be laid to rest beside her husband later that day at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Cemetery in Cedarburg.

If desired, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her name are suggested.

The Eernisse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements; online condolences may be left at www.eernissefuenralhome.com .
