Obituary

Arline Marion of Port Haven in Port Washington passed away early Thursday morning August 2 2012. She was 90 years young. Arline was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin on April 18th 1922 to Mary and Frank Bonk. She grew up in one of the more established Southside neighborhoods that featured beautiful tree lined streets and the small town character that proliferated in the 30's and 40's. She attended Pulaski High School and was elected Prom Queen in 1939 presiding over her court and the festivities with style and elegance. After graduating from high school Arline worked for the local newspaper the Milwaukee Journal as a fashion illustrator. It is here that she undoubtedly honed her fashion sense which was to be her trademark throughout her life. After the war she met Fred Marion a returned WWII aviator and bona fide war hero who had flown fifty missions during the most hotly contested time of the war. They were united in marriage on October 16 1948 in Milwaukee. The couple spent their early years living in Fox Point while engaged in their career building. Arline worked in retail and fashion consulting with several retailers including Boston Store. However her career would take a backseat to family matters for the next decade and a half as she set upon the task of raising a family including her two sons Jay (1952) and Marc (1958). During that time Arline focused herself on maintaining and nurturing an attractive home for her husband and sons. Together Fred and Arline built two homes during that period and Arline channeled her creative skills into design and decorating. The second home in Hales Corners was arguably one of the showpiece homes in the community at its time. When the boys grew old enough Arline gradually returned to the work force. Her first excursion came as a Welcome Wagon Hostess. These self-employed ambassadors for the community represented a variety of businesses in the area and the local government presenting much needed information to newly arrived residents. As always Arline did her work with the highest degree of professionalism style and grace that was always appreciated. In later years Arline and family moved to the northwestern suburbs and towns including Brown Deer Mequon Cedarburg and most recently Port Washington. During this period Arline continued her work with Welcome Wagon creating the best possible impression for the businesses of Ozaukee County. In the late seventies Arline returned to a career in fashion consulting by taking a position with Marshall Field's at Mayfair Mall. Arline's innate sense of fashion and style was most appreciated and she became a manager and buyer for the exclusive department known as The 28 Shop. During her life Arline also had the opportunity to travel. Numerous trips to the gulf coast Caribbean Central America and Hawaii helped give her the insights and life perspectives that made her the skilled and much appreciated representative she was for so many people. Arline is survived by her two children Jay and Marc Marion. She has had a profound and positive impact on thousands of people's lives and will be truly missed. A private memorial service will be held for Arline. In her memory a forsynthia bush and memorial bench are being placed at Port Haven. The Eernisse Funeral Home Port Washington is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.eernissefuneralhome.com .
