Obituary

Alice Birenbaum passed away Thursday morning, October 15, 2015 at Harbor Club in Port Washington. She was 85 years old. Alice was born in the Town of Belgium on July 11, 1930, the daughter of Frank and Lillian (nee Wester) Lanser. On July 3, 1954, she was united in marriage with Eugene Birenbaum at St. Mary Lake Church. He preceded her in death in 2012. Mrs. Birenbaum was a member of Divine-Savior Parish, and a longtime member of the Belgium American Legion Auxiliary and the Christian Mother's Altar Society at St. Mary's Lake Church. She enjoyed taking care of her family, baking, canning, making bread and doing crossword puzzles. She cherished her close-knit neighborhood of friends for more than 50 years. Alice is survived by her children: Debbie Schmidt of Belgium, Donna (Mike) Burmesch of Port Washington, Pat (Jean) of Grafton, Dan of Belgium, Jim (Debbie) of Plymouth and Jeff (Shelly) of Cascade. She is further survived by 13 grandchildren: Christopher, Chad (Jen) and Michael (Amanda) Schmidt, Ali (Joel) Zalewski, Andie (Brian) Hartwig, Mikey (Nicole) and Mark Burmesch, Briana (fiancée Mike Hall), Adam, Kylie, Kyle, Erica and Sarah Birenbaum, great-grandchildren Noah, Cecilia and Mabel, brothers-in-law Vincent Birenbaum of Random Lake, Richard (Shirley) Birenbaum of Cedar Grove and Clem Bichler of Belgium, sister-in-law Mary Ann Lanser of Port Washington, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her grandson Tyler Birenbaum and siblings: Edmund, Norbert, Ambrose, Fr. Jerome, Marjorie, Barbara Becker, Angie Jacoby, Armella Lorge, Rita Lauters, Sr. Martha and Geraldine Bichler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 6PM on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Divine Savior Parish, Holy Cross Chapel, 5330 Hwy B in Belgium. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Tuesday from 3-6PM, with a walk-through of the American Legion Auxiliary at 4PM and a walk-through of the Belgium Fire Department at 5:30PM. Alice will be laid to rest at St. Mary Parish Cemetery in Lake Church beside Gene the following morning. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the T-Baum Foundation or to Belgium Fire & Rescue. The Eernisse Funeral Home, Belgium, is honored to serve the family. The family would like to thank the staffs at Harbor Club and Harbor Cove for the wonderful care she received as a resident and the staff at VITAS Healthcare for their compassionate hospice care, with special thanks to Melissa and Karen.
