Obituary

Alexander "Alex" David Bub of Random Lake, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, April 22, 2024 at the age of 74. He was born in Milwaukee to Alex and Rose (nee Monafo) Bub on October 19, 1949. Alex was united in marriage to Kay Johannes on January 5, 1982.

Alex was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked as an engineer at Harley-Davidson in Powertrain Development and retired after 33 years of dedicated service.

Alex had a passion for motorcycles and was an accomplished motorcycle racer. He participated in both amateur and professional motorcross and dirt track events. His switch to road racing on his KTM400 enduro led to the 1979 WERA 410cc National Superbike championship. Alex also excelled in the AMA Professional Superbike racing and the Battle of the Twins, winning Midwest Twins Championships with AMACCS and securing second place in the AMACCS SuperTwins series. In 2002 Alex joined the Superbikers 2 Super-Motard Racing Association, winning the Sports Motard Championship in 2002 and 2003.

Alex had a wealth of experience with OHVs (Off-Highway Vehicles) and was a partner for 15 years with the National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC) in Wisconsin. He played a crucial role in creating routes and collaborating on OHV recreation opportunities, working alongside dual sport motorcycle and 4x4 clubs. His passion for motorcycles extended beyond racing, as he became certified to teach Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) classes. Alex dedicated himself to teaching at motorcycle and ATV schools, allowing more people to enjoy the experience of off-highway riding.

His contributions to OHV recreation and motorcycle education continue to impact enthusiasts in Wisconsin and beyond.

Alex's other interests include HAM radio. He was a long-time member of the Sheboygan County Amateur Radio Club and could interface with people from all walks of life.

Alex was a loving husband and proud father. He will remain in the hearts of his devoted wife Kay Johannes, his son David Bub; sister Barbara (Albert) Arps; brother Robert (Patti) Bub and brother-in-law Jay (Linda) Johannes; He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A celebration of life gathering will take place on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 4:00-6:00pm at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1167 Washington Ave. Cedarburg, WI 53012. The family will receive guests during this time.
