IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Aleksandr
Amelyan
January 23, 1949 – April 11, 2025
Aleksandr Amelyan, age 76, of Glendale, WI, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family—his wife Lyubov, daughter Margarita, and son Artem.
Aleksandr was born on January 23, 1949, in Turkistan, Kazakhstan, to Arshavir Amelyan and Zlota Aizenberg. He earned his high school diploma from School #3 in Kentau before pursuing a technical degree at Mining and Metallurgy Technical College in Kentau. He later graduated with a bachelor's degree from Frunze Polytechnic Institute in Bishkek (formerly Frunze) in 1973. Before enrolling in college, Aleksandr proudly served two years in the Army.
On January 6, 1979, Aleksandr married the love of his life, Lyubov Popova (now Lyubov Amelyan), at Cafe Romashka in Kentau. Their wedding was a celebration attended by many friends and family members. Together they shared 46 wonderful years of marriage filled with love and devotion.
Aleksandr dedicated much of his career to public service, starting as foreman at the water utility company in Kentau in 1977. Through hard work and leadership, he rose through the ranks to become Director of the water utility company for the city of Kentau—a position he held until 2001. In 2001, Aleksandr and his family immigrated to the United States to begin a new chapter in their lives. He briefly worked for a cleaning company cleaning commercial buildings and later as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at a nursing home. His final position was as a mechanic at Tramont Corporation in Milwaukee, where he worked for ten years on various assignments before retiring in 2014.
In retirement, Aleksandr dedicated most of his time to his grandchildren, whom he loved deeply. He found great joy in teaching them math, playing chess, backgammon, and dominoes, and sharing stories about fishing. Aleksandr often took them fishing, passing along his knowledge and love for the sport. A talented guitarist, he also taught his grandchildren songs and entertained them with music. He challenged their minds with various puzzles and always kept them engaged and entertained. Every summer break, Aleksandr organized a big contest for his grandchildren, complete with prize money as an incentive. The children eagerly awaited these events, which were filled with laughter, learning, and cherished memories.
Aleksandr had a deep passion for fishing and gardening. He loved waking up early to fish at the Milwaukee River near his home, often catching bass, salmon, trout, and even sturgeon. He was also known for making the best chicken and beef shishkabob (shashlyk)—a skill admired by everyone who had the pleasure of tasting his cooking. Three years ago, Aleksandr began planting fruit trees as a hobby. His dedication to researching different kinds of trees led him to cultivate apricot, peach, lemon, pear, persimmon, and pomegranate trees. Despite his health challenges during his final days, Aleksandr continued watering his beloved trees every Wednesday without fail. During his last hospital stay, he expressed excitement about seeing his lemon tree blossom—a testament to his optimism and love for life.
Aleksandr is survived by his wife Lyubov Amelyan; his children Margarita Nudel (husband Dmitriy Nudel) of Mequon, WI; Artem Amelyan (wife Alla Amelyan) of Venice, FL; and six grandchildren: Stella, Olivia, David, Matthew, Andrew, and Victor. He is also survived by two older brothers: Yuri Amelyan of Glendale, WI; and Vladimir Amelyan of Moscow, Russia.
Aleksandr cherished his lifelong friendship with Nikolay Mavridi—a bond that spanned over 60 years. Nikolay immigrated to Greece in 1994; Aleksandr maintained close contact with him and visited him with Lyubov in 2007.
He was preceded in death by his father Arshavir Amelyan in 1979 and his mother Zlota Amelyan in 2005.
