Mr. Daniel Ramthun of Grafton passed away Wednesday morning, January 3, 2018, at Lawlis Family Hospice Center in Mequon. He was 70 years old. Daniel was born January 9, 1947 in West Allis, son of Sylvester and Elizabeth Sander Ramthun. He attended local schools and graduated from Nathan Hale High School before attending UW Milwaukee. Dan enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968 and served on the USS Long Beach. On May 17, 1969 he was united in marriage with Linda Sader at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church in Milwaukee. The couple settled in Milwaukee and started their family; they moved to Grafton in 1977. Mr. Ramthun was employed as a tool maker, most recently at Ark-les Custom Products in New Berlin. He retired in 2015 after more than 20 years on the job. Dan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton, and was a member of VFW Post 10171. He loved woodworking, and made many projects including cribs for his grandchildren, a bookcase with stained glass doors and a deck for their home. When his children were younger, Mr. Ramthun was very involved with Boy Scout Troop 839, and enjoyed camping and helping guide the boys towards their goals. Survivors include his wife Linda and their children Phillip (Laura) Ramthun of Farmington, MN and Jennifer (James) Sindicic of Jackson. He is further survived by five grandchildren: Wyatt, Faith, Julia, Calvin and Sabrina, brother Jim (Judy) Ramthun of Cedarburg, sisters Ellen (Ron) Fuchs and Patricia (Louis) Kemper, both of Colorado, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents. At Dan's request, private family services were held. If desired, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association. The Eernisse Funeral Home in Cedarburg is assisting the family with arrangements; online condolences may be left at www.eernissefuneralhome.com .
