Obituary

Mrs. Barbara Holzer of Belgium passed away at Sheboygan Progressive Health Services in the early morning hours of Monday, October 21, 2024 with family by her side. She was 86 years old.

Barbara was born in Manitowoc on March 28, 1938, to Christian and Ruth (nee Goetz) Yurk. She grew up in Sheboygan and attended local schools before graduating from Sheboygan Central High School.

On August 11, 1956, Barbara was united in marriage with Lawrence R. Holzer at St. Clement's Church in Sheboygan. The couple settled in Port Washington and began their family of five children, before moving to Belgium in 1971. Mrs. Holzer was employed as a Trimmer at Allen Edmonds for over 30 years, retiring in 1999. Barb and Larry loved camping with their children and grandchildren; they had camped at Fawn Lake Campground since 1965 (site 35 was their favorite!) while also enjoying being up north in Shawano. Larry preceded Barb in death in 2000.

Barb had an obsession with all things Elvis! She loved his music, his movies, and trips to Graceland, and enjoyed collecting Elvis memorabilia. She also enjoyed shopping, knitting, and watching NASCAR. Above all, she took great pride in her children and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her daughters Theresa (Frank) Schmitz of Whitebird, ID, Debra (Brian) Lukens of Rib Lake, and Tammy (Mike) Beck of Allenton, her son Steve (Gail Kobus) Holzer of Oostburg, 11 grandchildren: Angela (Todd), Sara (Christopher), Melissa (AJ), Bambi, Brianne (Edwin), Bobbi Jo, Betsy (Randy), Nicholas (Sara), Matthew (Sheri), Stephanie, and Tyler. She is further survived by 19 great grandchildren (and one more due in December), 1 great-great-grandson, special friend Glenn Hildebrand, brother Charles (Wendy) Yurk, sister Mary (Marvin) Foster, brother-in-law Tony Valenta, sisters-in-law Marge, Pat, Debbie, and Jean Yurk, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Larry, daughter Lillian Howard, son-in-law Brad Lukens, brothers Fred (the late Pat), Chris (Debbie), John (the late Marilyn), Paul (Pat), Dick (Jean), and Jimmy Yurk, and sisters Judy Valente, Kaye (the late Robert) King.

Funeral Services will be held at 4PM on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Eernisse Funeral Home (171 N. Royal Ave., Belgium). Pastor David Cornette will preside. The family will receive guests at the Eernisse Funeral Home in Belgium on Friday, October 25th from 1-4PM. Barb will be laid to rest with her family on a later date at Sunrise Memorial Garden in Sheboygan.

Memorials, if desired, are suggested to Sheboygan Progressive Health Services or North Shore Hospice in her name.
