Robert B. Bares
Robert Bares, of Belgium, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, March 31, 2017. He was 85 years old.
Robert was born in Belgium on October 12, 1931, son of Louis Bares and Margaret Schueller Bares. As a young boy, Bob worked alongside his uncles as a delivery boy for Wayside Dairy. At the age of 22, Bob was drafted into the US Army, where he served honorably until his discharge in 1955. He was a proud Korean War Veteran.
On August 25, 1962, he married Leona Grabinger at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Kohler. In the early 1960’s, Bob and his brother Engelbert “Bert” Bares bought their father’s business, Bares Well Drilling and Pump Service. They worked together for many years. Bob then went on to work at Advanced Cast Stone in Random Lake, where he retired from in 1997. During his retirement, he also worked part-time at Port Washington High School as a custodian until 2002.
Bob was a lifelong member of Divine Savior Parish in Holy Cross. He was also a member of Catholic Knights, the Catholic Order of Foresters, American Legion Melvin Wester Belgium Post 412, and was also a proud member of Wisconsin Laborer’s Union Local #330. He enjoyed helping in the garden and loved restoring his 1929 Ford Model A Town Sedan.
Bob is survived by his wife Leona of Belgium, his son Bill (Cathy) Bares of Fredonia, and five grandchildren; Nathan, Dylan, Haily, Austin and Bennett. He is further survived by two brothers Donald (Julie) Bares and Engelbert “Bert” (Regina) Bares both of Belgium, 2 sisters Betty (the late Eugene) Gottsacker of Shawano and Dorothy (Michael) Harrington of Port Washington, two sisters-in-law Kathleen Bares of Belgium and Mary Bares of Holy Cross, and his aunt Janet Bares of Merrill, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Kenneth and Eugene, sisters and brothers-in-law Beatrice Bares, Marcella (Ray) Kultgen, Edward F. Grabinger, Viola (Joe) Kultgen, and Evelyn Grabinger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 4th at 6:00 PM at Divine Savior Parish, Holy Cross Chapel. Father Todd Budde and Father Jim Ernster will con-celebrate the Mass. Bob will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Holy Cross Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the CHURCH on Tuesday, April 4th from 3:30 PM until 6 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to Divine Savior Parish or the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.
