Obituary for Lawrence "Larry" F. Jentges

Lawrence Jentges, age 85 years of the Town of Port Washington died Thursday evening, Jan. 5, 2017 at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton. He was born August 20, 1931 in Conrath, WI, son of Jacob and Molly (nee Sampont) Jentges.
Larry grew up in Knellsville (Town of Port Washington) and served in the US Army during the Korean conflict 1951-1954. On September 18, 1954, he married Sally Egerer at St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Washington. Larry worked as a truck driver for various trucking companies until opening Larry's Marine Bar in Port Washington from 1969 — 1974. In 1974 he started Ozaukee Sanitation which he operated until retiring in 1997. Larry was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Fredonia, the Wisconsin Antique Power Association, honorary member of Wisconsin Liquid Waste Carriers Association, Belgium American Legion Post 412, Ozaukee Memorial Post 5373 where he was a past commander and a former member of the Drill Team and the Honor Guard. He was a longtime member of the former Ozaukee County Rescue Squad and Water Safety Patrol, serving as the Chief for many years until the unit was disbanded. During many of those years on the Rescue Squad, he also served as a special deputy for the Ozaukee County Sheriff Department. Larry will always be remembered for his love of the American flag and his insistence on proper flag etiquette. He didn't like to see a tattered flag flying and often offered a new flag to replace a worn one. He was vocal on veteran's affairs and often wrote letters to Washington officials in an attempt to sway decisions in favor of veterans. Larry's love for his country and the flag was second only to his love for his family who often heard him proclaim "Little things in life", but left them contemplate what he actually meant by saying that to them.
Larry is survived by his wife of 62 years Sally, his two daughters Nancy Bogie (Mike Cotter) of Verona, WI and Susan (Duane) Sheldon of Frisco, TX, his son Steven (Katie) Jentges of Fredonia and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Alan, sisters Dorothy, Mary Ann, and Betty Jane, and brothers James and George.
